Will God Abandon You?

Introduction

The idea of being abandoned or forsaken is especially frightening for many people. If you have ever actually been abandoned, then you know what I am talking about. You have no one to turn to or to help you. You feel terribly alone. There is no one to listen to you, nor is there any one that you really trust. Life becomes very bleak indeed.

Can you trust God? Can you really trust God to keep His promises? Is God trustworthy? The short answer is yes you can! Yes, God is trustworthy. In fact, God is the only really trustworthy person in the entire universe. Here is a verse that speak directly to this:

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (Num 23:19 - KJV)

Here we have the rock solid testimony from the Old Testament, that God will not, nor can He lie, or change His mind. Whatever God promises, He will surely do it. The key here is that you must trust God and believe Him through faith in Jesus Christ. Here is what the writer to the Hebrews said:

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Heb 11:6 - KJV).

With this in mind, I want to share with you some of the many verses that prove that God will never, ever, "ever leave thee nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5).

Selected Verses On God Not Abandoning You

Moses reassures the Israelites that God will not abandon them when they cross over the Jordan river and enter Canaan.

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. (Deut 31:6, 8 ESV)

God directly commissions Joshua to succeed Moses and reassures him of divine protection:

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. (Josh 1:5 ESV)

The prophet Samuel, in his farewell address to the Israelites, that although they have sinned, yet the Lord will not abandon them.

For the Lord will not forsake his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself. (1 Sam 12:22 ESV)

King David admonishes his son, Solomon, to be faithful and not to fear, for God will be with him.

Then David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the Lord God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished. (1 Chron 28:20 ESV)

King David reminds all that God has never forsaken His people.

And those who know your name put their trust in you,for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek yo

(Psalms 9:10 ESV)

The prophet Isaiah recalls that God will not abandon the poor and needy.

When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the Lord will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them

(Isaiah 41:17 ESV)

Again, Isaiah reminds all that God will not abandon the blind, but will be with them.

And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.

(Isaiah 42:16 ESV)

Finally, the writer to the Hebrews says it succinctly.

I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee (Hebrews13:5 KJV).

I BELEIVE IN GOD. I READ THE BIBLE WHEN I WAS A LAD. I GO TO CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY. I BELIEVE THAT GOD EXISTS, AND THAT HE LOVES EVERYBODY, AND THAT HE IS ON OUR SIDE. HE WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO DIE FOR OUR SINS.

I pray all the time and read the bible. I am very sick and getting ready to loose everything. I do not want anything but his love, but I do not feel him with me anymore. I use to feel that he was with me and for some reason he is not their anymore. I believe I am going to end this life. I simply do not have anyone anymore and no one seems to care. Why should I. I am not trying to feel sorry for myself, I have really tried in this life, it is just not going anywhere and I am sick of being sick. I love you all and hope to see you. I know no one will read this, but I had to say goodbye to someone.

Dear Chris, God loves you very much! He would not want you to think of harming yourself. He cares about you and he is always there for us even when we do not realize it sometimes. I care and I am praying for you.

For the Lord will not forsake his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself. (1 Sam 12:22) I find this to be very encouraging because often times I feel as if I'm not walking the path God intended for me to be on.However, it is comforting to know that he still cares and listens to every prayer. After reading this it makes me feel as if I can be good enough for him even though I don't feel worthy of his love.

God is good

And just remember Chris...

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. (Josh 1:5)
